He Was Standing. He Was Choking. He Used ArixMed on Himself.
REAL CUSTOMER REPORT
Two questions customers often ask are:
Can I use ArixMed on myself? Can it be used while standing?
A recent rescue report from a 70-year-old ArixMed customer provides a real-life example of both.
A First Bite—and Suddenly, He Couldn’t Breathe
Charles, from Magnolia, Texas, had just taken his first bite of a chicken strip when it became lodged in his throat.
He couldn’t inhale or exhale.
Charles kept his ArixMed beside his bed, so he was able to reach it quickly. Still standing, he placed the device over his mouth and nose and operated it himself.
The first attempt didn’t clear the obstruction. Charles later explained that he had pulled the device away too soon.
On his second attempt, the piece of chicken came out.
“I realized I could breathe again and the piece of chicken was in the mask. Not to be overly dramatic, but it truly saved my life.”
What Stands Out About Charles’s Story
Charles was 70 years old. He used ArixMed on himself, and he remained standing throughout the incident.
He also shared that he has experienced throat problems following radiation therapy for throat cancer—an important part of his personal medical history.
Charles’s experience doesn’t tell us what every person will be able to do in every emergency. But it does provide a real example of an older adult acting on his own and using ArixMed in the position he was already in.
It also shows why becoming familiar with the device ahead of time matters. His first attempt didn’t work, but he adjusted and tried again.
Keep It Where You Can Reach It
One small detail in Charles’s report may have made a major difference: he knew exactly where his ArixMed was.
He didn’t have to look through a closet or search another room. It was beside his bed and within reach.
Wherever you store ArixMed—near the dining area, beside the bed or in another easy-to-access location—make sure the people in your household know where it is and have reviewed the instructions.
Because when choking happens, there may be no time to search.
Keep it close. Become familiar with it. Be prepared before you need it.
Keep ArixMed nearby and learn how it is designed to provide an additional option during a choking emergency.
